Build the payment rails
Target is 48 people in London, Riga and Limassol building the platform that 150+ businesses use to get paid: acquiring, multi-currency processing, fraud monitoring, payouts. Small teams, real ownership, and a product where a bad deploy shows up as somebody's missing money. If that focuses your mind rather than frightens you, read on — six roles are open.
The package, in plain English
Everything below is in the contract, not in a slide deck. The same terms apply to every permanent role, in every country, from the first day — a support engineer in Riga is on the same equity scheme and the same leave policy as the CTO.
Remote-first across the EU
Work from anywhere in the EU or the UK; a desk in London, Riga or Limassol is there if you want one. Core hours are 11:00–16:00 CET, the rest of the day you arrange yourself. The whole company meets in person twice a year.
Equity for everyone
Every permanent employee gets share options from day one, on one scheme for the whole company. Four-year vesting with a one-year cliff, and the strike price is printed in the offer letter, not discussed later.
Learning budget €2,000
€2,000 a year for courses, conferences, certifications and books. Anything under €500 needs no approval, exam days are paid working days, and what you do not spend rolls over once into the next year.
Health insurance
Private health and dental cover for you and your family from your first day, in the country you live in. Mental-health sessions are included, and sick leave is paid in full for up to 30 days a year.
30 days off
30 days of paid leave on top of public holidays, and we count them: your manager nudges you if you have not booked any by June. Nobody is contacted on holiday — the on-call rota covers it — and five days carry over.
Hardware of choice
MacBook Pro or a Linux ThinkPad, whichever you work faster on, plus a 27-inch monitor and a proper chair. €1,500 towards the home office set-up, and the laptop is replaced every three years.
What we hire for
“We hire people who would rather ship a boring, correct settlement on Friday than a clever one on Monday. Payments is a trust business. Every line of code, every rule in the fraud engine and every reply to a merchant either earns trust or spends it — and the whole job, in every team, is to earn it quietly, every day.”
Own the outcome
A ticket is done when the merchant's money has landed, not when the pull request is merged. Engineers carry the pager for the code they write; risk analysts sign the rules they set; the person who answers a merchant closes the case.
Say the number
We argue with data: approval rates, chargeback ratios, p99 latency, minutes to first reply. “It feels slow” is the start of a conversation, not the end of one. And when we are wrong, we say so — in writing, in the channel where we were wrong.
Boring is a feature
The most valuable thing we ship is nothing surprising. Proven tools, small releases, tests for the edge cases that cost money. Cleverness goes into the product and the pricing, not into the infrastructure that moves the money.
Six roles, three offices, one team
Every role below is permanent and full-time, with the package above. Salary ranges are said out loud in the first call, not the third. Apply through the contact form — name the role in the message and tell us what you have built; a CV is welcome, a cover letter is not required — and we reply within five working days.
Senior Backend Engineer (Go)
Own the transaction pipeline: authorisation, routing across 15+ acquirers, settlement in 25 currencies. Go, PostgreSQL and Kafka on Kubernetes; a 99.99% availability target and a deploy on most days. You have six or more years in backend engineering, at least two of them in payments or another domain where a mistake has a balance, and you write the runbook before the feature ships.
Apply for this roleRisk Analyst
Tune the rules engine and the machine-learning scoring that keep the portfolio's chargeback ratio under 0.4%. You review merchant risk profiles at onboarding, investigate fraud patterns as they appear, write the rules that stop them and explain the results to acquiring banks and card schemes. Three or more years in fraud or risk at a PSP, acquirer or issuer; SQL you are comfortable with; Greek is a bonus, not a requirement.
Apply for this roleProduct Designer
Design the three surfaces every client touches: the merchant dashboard, the hosted checkout and the developer documentation. Black, white, hairlines and type — no gradients, no decoration, every state drawn. You test with real merchants each sprint and ship with the engineers rather than handing over. Four or more years in B2B product design and a portfolio of work that went to production.
Apply for this rolePartnerships Manager DACH
Build the partner network in Germany, Austria and Switzerland: e-commerce platforms, agencies, developers and payment consultants who refer merchants to Target. The commission tiers, partner dashboard and contracts already exist; the relationships do not. Quota-carrying, reporting to the Head of Partnerships in Limassol. Native-level German, four or more years in payments or SaaS partnerships, and a diary that already contains the right names.
Apply for this roleCompliance Officer
Run day-to-day KYC/KYB, transaction-monitoring reviews and sanctions screening under the MLRO, and prepare the evidence for the FCA and the annual PCI DSS assessment. You also own the merchant onboarding SLA of 2–5 business days together with the risk team, and you say no when the answer is no. ICA or ACAMS certification and three or more years at an EMI, PSP or bank in the UK.
Apply for this roleSupport Engineer (night shift)
Be the person who answers at 3 a.m. First line for merchants and their developers: API errors, webhook retries, settlement questions, 3-D Secure edge cases. You read logs and stack traces, escalate the real incidents to the on-call engineer and close the rest yourself, in writing that a finance director can follow. Four nights on, four off, with a 30% night premium on top of the salary. English fluent; Latvian or Russian helpful.
Apply for this roleFour steps, two weeks, no puzzles
The whole process takes about two weeks from the first call to a written offer. No whiteboard algorithms, no five-round marathons, and you talk to the people you would actually work with. Interviews are on video; a final meeting in the office is optional and on us.
Intro call, 30 min
A video call with the hiring manager. What you have built, what we are building, and the salary range for the role — said out loud in the first fifteen minutes. If the job is not what the ad promised, we say so here and stop wasting your evening.
Technical or case, 60 min
Engineers pair with one of us on a real problem from our codebase — a settlement bug, a routing rule — in the language of the role. Design, risk, compliance and partnerships get a short take-home case and an hour to walk us through it.
Team interview
45 minutes with three people you would work with, one of them from outside your function. They ask how you work; you ask about anything — on-call, the roadmap, the last incident and what we changed after it. They will answer.
Offer within 5 days
A written offer within five working days of the last interview: salary, equity, start date and the contract itself, in the language of your country. If the answer is no, you get a call, not a template, and a reason you can use next time.
Don’t see your role?
We hire ahead of the job ads. If you work in payments, risk, compliance, infrastructure or support and think you would be good here, write to us: what you have built, what you want to build next and where you live. Every message gets a reply from a person within five working days.
Or e-mail info@target.co.uk with “Careers” in the subject line. We read every one — no agencies, please.
